Philip is actually working at Titan making a business deal with Tokyo on the phone. Kate emerges and notes that he’s truly his father’s son. He claims how the work really piled up while he was off looking for Tyler. Kate reminds him that he still has Claire, but Philip relays that Belle told him to stop coming around because of Shawn’s jealousy. “She’s only staying with him out of guilt. The man she loves is me,” insists Philip.
Kate questions what Philip means by this declaration. Philip tries to brush her off, but Kate refuses to back off and wonders if something has happened between him and Belle. Philip lies that nothing happened. Kate warns him that nothing had better have happened, reminding him that Belle left him for Shawn. “Thanks for reminding me,” scowls Philip. He’s convinced that the only reason Belle’s with Shawn is because he’s Claire’s biological father. “She belongs with me, Mom. I just have to convince her,” declares Philip. Kate balks at this idea and strongly advises him to let Belle go if he loves her. “You mean the way you did when they were together before? And the way you respect Lucas’s choice to be with Sami?” rehashes Philip.
Kate admits she made a mistake trying to break up Belle and Shawn, but insists the thing with Lucas and Sami is completely different, rehashing how Sami tried to destroy Austin’s life. Kate is convinced that Sami will do the same to Lucas. Philip disagrees, noting that Lucas has never been happier.
“She loves him Mom,” insists Philip. “You know she probably does love EJ. God knows they’re two of a kind,” remarks Kate. “You know I meant Lucas,” clarifies Philip, who believes that Sami is a different person now. Kate disagrees and insists that she’s only trying to protect Lucas. She points out that Phil’s running a global corporation. Thus, the last thing he needs is finding himself caught in the arms of another man’s wife. “Belle isn’t Shawn’s wife. And I intend to make sure she never will be,” vows Philip. Kate begs him not to waste his time and energy on Belle and Shawn. “Just because Belle isn’t ready to marry Shawn doesn’t mean that she’s in love with you!” exclaims Kate. She then reveals that Sami and Lucas are divorced and she’s going to marry EJ. Philip notes how she finally did it and tells her to enjoy her victory.
At Shawn and Belle’s place, Bo and Hope are in shock by Shawn’s wedding announcement. Hope finally hugs a clueless Shawn, then gives Belle a quick hug. Bo hugs both of them, then calls for a celebratory drink downstairs between father and son. Hope notes how impressed she is with Belle, who claims it was all Shawn’s idea. Hope cautions her how lies grow. Belle reiterates her promise that what happened with Philip will never happen again. She insists she’s marrying Shawn because she loves him and she’ll make him happier than anyone else ever could. “Which is exactly why we’ve decided not to tell him,” continues Hope. Belle is astonished that Bo knows. Hope affirms that keeping secrets destroys marriages. She isn’t quite convinced that Belle wants this marriage as much as Shawn. Belle insists otherwise and says she told Philip that it was a mistake that would never happen again. Hope wonders if Philip accepted it, since he’s used to getting his own way. Belle tries to assure Hope that she’ll never betray Shawn again. Hope expresses how she wants to believe her and makes Belle promise that she won’t hurt Shawn. Belle swears on her life that she’ll never hurt Shawn, then thanks Hope for accepting her promise.
Meanwhile, Bo and Shawn go downstairs at the pub and have a beer. Bo demurs how Shawn’s busy these days trying to get his career together and suggests that maybe now’s not the best time to get hitched. Shawn professes to love Belle and recalls how he gave up everything to travel halfway around the world in order to protect Belle and Claire. Bo hints how sometimes one gets caught up in emotion and fails to see the big picture. Shawn implores him to come out and spill what’s on his mind and questions if this has anything to do with Belle. “Shawn, it’s got something to do with both of you,” muses Bo, pointing out that Shawn and Belle have each been married before and committed to other people. Shawn claims that he and Belle’s previous marriages failed because they were meant to be with each other. Shawn admits he has a lot of things to work on in his life, but having Belle by his side makes him feel as though he can do anything. He proposes they make a toast to his future wife.
Back upstairs, Hope can’t guarantee Bo will keep mum to Shawn, since trust is very important to him. Bo and Shawn come back upstairs, where Shawn reveals the exciting news that Bo gave them his blessing. Hope hugs Shawn, while Belle embraces Bo.
At Lucas and Sami’s apartment, Sami is appalled by EJ’s announcement that they are to be married tomorrow night. Selfish EJ doesn’t care and says all the arrangements have been made. Thus, they’ll be married in 36 hours. Lucas queries EJ’s arrangements without consulting Sami first. EJ gives the excuse that he thought Sami had enough on her hands. “Really? Is that how it’s gonna be in your so-called marriage? You lay down the law and she has no say?” assumes Lucas. “You’re gonna have to think again,” asserts Sami. EJ painfully reminds Lucas how Sami is now his ex-wife. Sami puts a halt to the badgering and states that she just wants it all to work out and insists getting married now is not a good time. EJ claims they don’t have time to wait, since Stefano’s supposedly taken a turn for the worse. “He does that like clockwork doesn’t he? Except he never seems to pass on,” jeers Lucas. EJ announces that Stefano’s going back to Italy. Thus, they have no choice but to marry tomorrow. Lucas tries to assure Sami that she doesn’t have to rush into marrying EJ. EJ, though, implies that Stefano will be awfully unhappy if they have to postpone the wedding. Lucas sneers at the idea of Sami marrying EJ 36 hours from now. “The Bradys have been terrorized and tortured for decades. The vendetta’s real, but it is going to end. Tomorrow night,” Sami affirms.
