Old analog telephones won't work on Optimum Voice.
Make an appointment for an Optimum professional to deliver and connect your phone service. It requires a cable modem configured for telephone service. If you currently subscribe to Optimum Online, check if your modem has two RJ-11 (telephone cord) jacks on the back. If it doesn't, you will receive an updated modem free of charge. - 3
Don't start cutting cables if you don't know what they're connected to.
Cut the wire that connects the outside world to your telephone jacks. Better yet, have the Optimum installer do it for you. Every incoming line is in a different place in every house; so unless you know what you're doing, let the pros handle it. It will usually be in a basement or garage, near where the lines enter the house. Basically, you're disconnecting the your phone jacks from the outside world. - 4
The connection on a telephone RJ-11 cable.
Connect a telephone to the top jack on the cable modem, and confirm that you get a dial tone. Once you establish that you have service, you can start making phone calls. - 5
You can activate all the phone jacks in your home.
Network your Optimum Voice line to all other telephones in the house. Connect the top jack on the cable modem to a wall jack using an RJ-11 cable. This allows you to use Optimum Voice from all active phone jacks, not just a phone connected directly to the modem. If you want to connect a phone directly to the modem as well as activate all the other jacks in the house, then buy a 2:1 RJ-11 adapter.
