How to Keep Roaches Out of Cat Food

  • 1). Store food in resealable plastic containers. Use several if you buy cat food in bulk and properly discard all empty cat food bags,

  • 2). Sprinkle a light layer of diatomaceous earth, which is non-toxic to both humans and pets, along the edges of your floors and around entrances. Contact with diatomaceous earth will cause the roaches to dehydrate and die.

  • 3). Sprinkle catnip on the floor near your cat's food bowl; catnip is a natural pest repellent and will make your cats quite happy as well. Use crumbled bay leaves also work.

  • 4). Store cat food on a high cabinet shelf and lightly sprinkle boric acid on the cabinet. Boric acid will get on the roach's exoskeleton and slowly devour them. Keep away from children and pets as it can be toxic if ingested orally.
