How to Freeze String Beans

    • 1). Pour several inches of water into your pot, put the pot on the stove, and set the heat at high.

    • 2). Put cold water and some ice cubes into your bowl.

    • 3). Cut both ends off each of your string beans using scissors or a knife.

    • 4). Cut each string bean into pieces 2 to 4 inches long. This will allow for easier preparation later, as you will not need to thaw the beans to cut them up before adding them to recipes. However, you may skip this step if you prefer to leave your green beans whole.

    • 5). Put your string beans into the pot of water once the water has reached a rolling boil. Only add as many beans as you can comfortably fit in the pot while allowing every bean to be fully submerged in the water.

    • 6). Boil your string beans for two to three minutes, then remove them from the hot water and plunge them into the bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Partially cooking the beans this way is called "blanching" and is a common method to freeze many types of produce.

    • 7). Remove the cooled string beans from the ice water and allow them to drip dry for a few minutes.

    • 8). Place the beans into your freezer-safe containers, leaving a half-inch of room at the top of each container. Seal each container and put it in your freezer.
