- 1). Go to a body of water that the warmouth prefer; you will find many in Texas. They like muddy bottoms and prefer calm, still water. You will find them in abundance in ponds, swamps, ditches and any other place where you can find still or calm water. You can even try catching them in areas of streams that have calm, slow-moving water. Also, they love verdant waters with plenty of underwater plants in which to hide and seek shelter.
- 2). Bait your hook with the kind of bait the warmouth goes for, including live worms. Warmouths feed on insects and other fish, so using bait such as small fish like a minnow or an artificial lure resembling insects works well.
- 3). Cast your line near the bank and to other sheltered underwater areas. They prefer shelter such as under a bank, near stumps or submerged logs. They will hang around underwater plants and grassy waters -- basically wherever they can find some protection from larger fish.
- 4). Fish for warmouths during the late spring and summer months when they spawn.
