The story of Genesis chapter 22 is a clear example of a Christian child's obedience.
Abraham was asked by God to give Isaac as a sacrificial Lamb.
Let's focus on the obedience of Isaac and not just on that of Abraham alone.
This is because we consider that the obedience of Isaac was classical as well as outstanding in all Christian history.
He was a young boy of about seventeen years, strong and energetic.
Isaac could have escaped from his father, but he willingly allowed himself to be laid on the alter of sacrifice.
He neither struggled nor asked his father again about his father's belief that God would provide Himself a Lamb for the sacrifice.
Some other child may have felt deceived by his trusted father.
Yet he became obedient even unto death.
Isaac was indeed a type of Christ who willingly lay down His life for us.
Children of Christian backgrounds should note some important facts from this narrative: (1) Obedience to parents is the first commandment with a promise.
(2) You will not die young as you obey your parents and God will keep you alive - may you live long on earth (Exodus 20: 12).
(3) It's only in obedience to your parents that you'll earn the blessings of your parents just as Isaac became a heir to the Covenant of Abraham.
God who was hitherto the God of Abraham also became, by extension, the God of Isaac.
(4) Honor your parents so that your children will later honor you too.
(5) Set apart a percentage of your income, which you must send to your parents regularly.
(6) Once you secure the blessings of your parents, no other persons' curse can affect your life.
(7) It must be well with you as you obey your parents.
