- Recycled rubber serves numerous uses in asphalt pavements. Ground or "crumb" rubber is used as a binder for asphalt pavements and for various asphalt sealants and crack fillers.
- The Federal Highway Administration in its "User Guidelines for Waste and Byproduct Materials in Pavement Construction" reports that more than 15 state agencies have used tire shreds and chips as a lightweight fill for embankments. Benefits include improved permeability and insulating properties.
- Other highway applications using recycled rubber products include road base, noise walls and landscaping walls. The Texas Department of Transportation uses molded tire-rubber products including delineator posts and guardrail spacer blocks.
