- 1). Open your phone's keypad as if you were going to make a call. Type "*#06#" into the screen to reveal your phone's IMEI number. Write this number down for later use.
- 2). Call your phone company's technical support department and request an unlock code. Be prepared to give your name, mobile number and IMEI number to the customer service representative. If the representative refuses to give you a code, you can purchase one from a site such as mobileunlocksolutions.com, foneszone.co.uk or mobile2mobile.net, which are listed in the Resources section below.
- 3). Turn off your phone and remove its battery door.
- 4). Remove the SIM card, which is located next to the battery, and insert your new foreign or prepaid SIM card in its place.
- 5). Turn on the phone and when the screen reads "Enter Password," enter the unlock code you received in a previous step. If your phone says "Incorrect SIM Card," enter "#0111*unlock code#", in which "unlock code" represents the code that you received in a previous step. Your phone is now unlocked and ready to use on your new network.
