- 1). Protect adjoining surfaces, such as moldings, trim and ceiling edges, with low-tack painter's masking tape.
- 2). Remove wall hangings, pictures and curtains from the room.
- 3). Lay tarps over floors to protect them from paint splatters. Push furniture to the center of the room and cover it with tarps or large sheets of plastic.
- 4). Repair any wall cracks and holes with drywall compound, and sand the surface smooth. Rag-rolling glazes seep into cracks and highlight them.
- 5). Paint the base coat on the walls in the room, using a paint roller. Cut in the corners and edges with a paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry for three to four hours.
- 1). Cut six to eight 4- to 6-foot lengths of cloth. Crumple the cloth to create ridges, hills and valleys. Wrap the cloth around a paint roller and secure it in place with a rubber band at each end of the roller. Conceal the rubber bands under the folds of the cloth.
- 2). Mix 1 qt. of paint with 1 gallon of glaze in a large, lidded painter's bucket. Stir to blend it, using a stir stick. Pour the paint and glaze mixture into a painter's tray. Place the lid on the painter's bucket to keep the glaze from evaporating and drying out.
- 3). Dip the rag-covered paint roller into the tray lightly. Roll off any excess on the lip of the painter's tray. Roll paint and glaze onto the wall lightly at a 45-degree angle first to the right and then to the left to avoid leaving hard edges in the paint. Continue to apply angled random strokes of paint and glaze, refilling the painter's tray as necessary, until paint and glaze cover the entire wall. Remove and replace rags as they become paint- and glaze-saturated.
- 4). Apply the paint and glaze mixture to corners and edges by hand without using the roller.
- 1). Cut six to eight 4- to 6-foot lengths of plastic, paper or cloth. Roll and crumple the plastic, paper or cloth around a paint roller and hold it in place with rubber bands. Hide the rubber bands under the cloth's folds.
- 2). Blend 1 qt. of paint with 1 gallon of glaze in a lidded painter's bucket. Use a stir stick to mix it thoroughly. Pour the paint and glaze mixture into a painter's tray. Place the lid on the painter's bucket.
- 3). Dip a medium-nap roller into the paint and glaze mixture and roll the excess off onto the tray's lip. Roll the paint and glaze mixture onto the wall in 2- to 3-foot sections from the top of the wall to the bottom. Immediately roll over the wet glaze and paint mixture with the paper-, plastic- or cloth-covered roller to remove some paint and glaze from the wall. Roll the covered roller in a random pattern over the wet surface. Continue to apply paint and glaze in 2- to 3-foot-wide sections, and then roll off the color until you finish the walls.
- 4). Remove the paint glaze mixture in hard-to-reach areas by holding the paper, plastic or cloth and dabbing at the surface.
