- Give children pink, white and red craft foam. Have the children cut hearts out of the foam. Help younger children cut the hearts, for safety reasons. Place alphabet beads, markers and glitter paint to decorate the hearts. Tell the children to use the alphabet letters to write words, such as "Be Mine" and "I (Heart) You." After the hearts dry, use craft glue to glue a craft pin on the back of each heart.
- Divide the children into two teams, and have them stand at a starting line. Mark a finish line about 20 feet from the starting line. Place two bowls of foil-wrapped chocolate hearts and two small paper bags at the finish line. When you say, "Go," the first player in line must put on a pair of gloves and run to the finish line. He must take a piece of wrapped candy and unwrap it with his gloves on. He must put the unwrapped candy in his team's bag and run to tag the next player in line. That player must do the same thing. The first team who completes the race wins the game.
- Allow popcorn to sit out for a couple of days so it becomes stale and easier to string. Give your children floral wire and tell them to shape the floral wire in the shape of a heart. Give them a bowl of the stale popcorn and have them string the popcorn on the floral wire. Hang the Valentine's bird feeders outside and watch the birds enjoy. Other food items you can string on the floral wire include dried berries, apples and oranges.
- Cut a medium-size heart out of red or pink construction paper. Tell the children to cover their eyes and hide the heart somewhere in the room. After you hide the heart, the children must walk around looking for the heart. When they find it, they must sit down. The first person to sit down and tell you where the heart is can hide the heart for the next round.
