A first date should be an exciting experience for you and your date.
But there are times when awkward incidences occur the first date also becomes the last one.
There are many mistakes that people make on a first date, but these can be avoided so that the next time you go out, the experience and the time with that special person will be worth keeping.
1.
Wrong dress code for a date If you show up wearing too formal or too casual attire, it is a wrong start for a first date.
If you are planning the two of you should talk about it so that the other person may not feel awkward or worried once you get together.
This is a good way of knowing what to expect.
2.
Dating on a crowded or noisy venue A concert or ballgame is not the ideal first date.
A noisy and crowded restaurant can be excused, but as much as possible choose a place where the two of you can relax, dine and talk.
A movie isn't good either because you can't talk that much or you can't look at each other's eyes in the dark.
It is important to see the connection on a first date, so plan it well and make sure that you'll enjoy the conversation and the getting-to-know stage.
3.
Don't be too gallant by overspending on a first date If you're a guy, it is nice to impress the girl of your dreams with the best restaurant and fine wine to share with.
But you really don't have to spend too much when it comes on a first date.
A simple and cozy coffee shop is a nice place to get to know her better instead of a high-end French diner that might appeal to her as too much or too extravagant.
4.
Too much info It is important to share the vital information about yourself, true, but you should always keep in mind that this budding relationship [if ever] is a two-way street.
Talking too much about yourself can be a major turn off for the other person, so try not to give away all information at once.
The first date is just the beginning and there is another time to let the other person know who you are.
Ask questions if you have to and if possible, take turns in sharing your stories and experiences to make it more exciting.
5.
That annoying cell phone Simply put, turn off your cell phone whenever you are out and meeting people.
In this case, it is a special event in your love life and you don't want to ruin it because of an annoying beep or ring.
This can put off your date and he/she may think that you're not interested.
You should resist taking your phone out from your bag or just leave it at home.
6.
Too much alcohol When ordering at a restaurant, it's okay to have some wine to accompany your dinner.
But don't go overboard by ordering a whole bottle or tagging your date at a bar afterwards.
This is a big mistake when you do it on a first date because you can ruin your chances if you get drunk and become obnoxious.
Creating a good impression is easy if you are in the right state of mind and not drunk.
7.
Don't be late Being late is a demerit on your part.
It is better to start the first date and the meeting when you are relaxed and not in a rush.
It's not fun to wait and you don't want that either.
Prepare early and leave early so you'll get to the venue ahead of time.
8.
Can't get over you ex It's a turn off when you talk about your ex with a new girl or guy.
This time is not about the past relationship and the person who was with you before.
A second date is close to impossible when you do this on a first date.
Keep the conversation centered on getting to know the person because that will show him/her that you are interested in knowing him/her better.
