- 1). Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the CD-ROM drive of your computer and restart your computer. Press the “R” key on your keyboard at the Welcome to Setup screen and you will enter the Recovery Console.
- 2). Enter your administrator password if you are prompted to and then press the “Enter” key. Enter “Chkdsk” into the command prompt and then press the “Enter” key.
- 3). Review the data shown from the Chkdsk report. Make note of any errors that are reported and make sure that your hard disk or file system is not damaged.
- 4). Enter “Exit” into the command prompt and press the “Enter” key on your keyboard. Press the “Enter” key at the Welcome to Setup screen and the press the “F8” key to accept the licensing agreement.
- 5). Press the “C” key to create a new hard-disk partition and then press the “Enter” key. Select the partition with your arrow keys and the press the “Enter” key.
- 6). Select to format the partition using the NTFS or FAT file system and then press the “Enter” key. Click on the “Install” option at the end of the installation prompts and allow time for the process to complete.
