Oil companies employ divers to work on underwater platforms; harbor and dam operators hire divers to perform maintenance and do underwater construction projects. Grants for completing your commercial diver certification and education are available, to help you get started in your new career. - The Association of Diving Contractors International, a professional organization for commercial divers and companies, offers a scholarship to aspiring commercial divers. Applicants are nominated by paying members of the ADCI. The grants cover tuition costs for a commercial diver certification program. The awards vary somewhat from year to year; in 2010 there were two scholarships of $4,000 each.
