Updated March 05, 2015.
Four days after my due date the doctor said that they were going to induce labor since the baby was big and I wasn't showing any signs of nearby labor! The day before I was due for the scheduled labor I tried soaking in the tub after eating hot-spicy food (my sister-in-law told me that was supposed to get you going with labor). Well, I don't know what was it but the night before I started having contractions all night every 5 minutes.
At 5am we went to the hospital and checked in. They immediately put an IV and the fetal monitor and after that I couldn't stand up for ANYTHING! It was so humiliating since they wouldn't even let me go to the toilet. This was a stupid hospital rule where I delivered that I hope they change soon! It is a torture.
At 8am the doctor came over and increased the pitocin dose A LOT! I was feeling contractions but they didn't seem that bad, although the nurse kept asking me if I wanted any drugs. She said my contractions were quite high and she haven't seen anyone going this far without drugs. I told her I was fine so far and that I didn't need anything. When I reached 5 cm the doctor came with this hook and broke my water! Don't worry I didn't even feel it but I did felt all sticky afterward. I got stuck for 3 hours at 5cm and it was already 3pm and nothing else was happening so the doctor suggested a C-section since I wasn't progressing. Also, they tried to engage the baby but this was useless.
He wouldn't even engage at all. They tried several times but that was it. At 3:00 PM they got me to the OR and put the spinal anesthesia. I thought it was going to be bad but it just took a minute and that was it for the feeling in my legs.
I had a good relation with the doctor so I kept bugging him when he was going to start the C-section, he said: "I've already reached your uterus, if you must know". I was so happy to hear this and 5 minutes later I heard a cute crying and they brought me the baby to see. 8 pounds 12 ounces, pink and big and healthy. After that I was put in the recovery room where I was driving the nurses crazy since I wouldn't stop asking when I was getting to my room to see my baby. After 30 minutes they moved me back to my room and saw my whole family waiting for me there. That was really nice to see. They brought the baby a little while later.
Even though I liked the idea of a Vaginal Delivery I don't regret having a C-section. My recovery was quite good, yes it is a little annoying but it all goes away. The week after the surgery they removed my stitches and I felt like a million dollars! I was able to breastfeed from the beginning and kept doing it until he turned 6 months. Now I am pregnant again after two years and I am trying a VBAC (Vaginal Delivery After C-Section) but I won't feel frustrated if I need another C-Section. The purpose of labor is to have a healthy baby if you can do it vaginally that is great! if you can't that is great too! Believe me, the ultimate womanly experience is not giving birth vaginally but to raise a child with love and patience. I congratulate every woman who delivers vaginally and through surgery! My only advise is to read, read, read and read more on everything your hands get a hold of (check the source of course!). The more informed you go to labor the better you can decide what you really want at that time. Make sure to make it clear with your partner so he or she can make sure your requests are followed at all times.
We took birth classes the first time and I am reading a VBAC book right now since I would like to try it. I am going to do everything I can to deliver vaginally since it has to feel great but if I need another C-Section...Oh Well! I'll feel great anyway. After all, the results of either way is what brings the happiness and joy!
