Choose a trim paint that complements your home and its colors. Some options are a shade of cream that's darker or lighter than the walls for contrast, natural or stained wood, or the bold colors found in Italian decor such as rust, teal, olive green or dark blue.
Give the paint a streaked and aged look by removing any excess paint from the brush before dragging the brush quickly over the trim. Wipe any excess paint away with a cloth to further age the look of the surface. - 3

Pour small lines of rust, deep yellow and cream paint on a tray or paint and add a drizzle of clear glaze. Do not mix the paint. Dab the sea sponge into each color and sponge the walls in a random fashion. Adjust the amounts of each color and of the glaze to achieve a soft muted mottling of the cream walls. Try to avoid creating any repetitive pattern. If the color in one area is too bright, sponge cream over that area to tone down the hue. - 4

Add the details that will transform your room. Hang Majolica pottery on the walls or display it on wood shelves. Wrought iron or wire chairs pair well with small aged wood tables.
Hang baskets of flowering plants. Red geraniums are a favorite flower often grown on Italian balconies. A wine rack or display of bottles can sit on a small chest or side table.
Stone sculptures or antique advertising signs written in Italian will add a traditional note. Bottles of olives, peppers, olive oil or pasta bring both color and texture to the decor.
