Tropical green flowers bring beauty and, often, fragrance to the garden. They thrive in regions where there is little climate change, either in temperature or in the amount of rainfall. Most tropical plants are native to countries near the equator. They need rich soil and moderate water, as well as regular feeding, to produce an abundance of flowers and foliage. - The herald's trumpet (Beaumontia grandiflora) blooms with 5-inch-long, trumpet-shaped, green-veined and white flowers. This tropical vine is native to the Himalayas and can grow up to 30 feet tall. Its dark green, shiny leaves contribute to its beauty. It thrives in full sun and needs moderate water in well-drained soil.
- Catasetum (Catasetum spitzii) orchids range in color from apple green to yellow green to bright yellows and oranges. The plant grows in the tropics and is abundant in Brazil, where it thrives in intense, full sun. The plant needs rich soil and regular water during its flowering season.
- The typical amaryllis (Hippeastrum hybrid) is red and associated with the holidays. However, the plant also produces blooms in other colors, including green, according to a University of Illinois gardening column. This flower has its family roots in the tropics of South America. Each bulb produces two or more flowers that are showy and up to 8 inches wide. The plant grows best in partial to full sun with moderate water.
- Maile (Alyxia oliviformis) is native to Hawaii and grows well in different regions. It can survive in a warm humid climate as well as a dry, high elevation. The tubular flowers bloom green-yellow and are surrounded by dark-green leaves. The leaves and stem of the plant are often used in leis. The plant likes shade to partial shade with moderate water in rich soil. Maile grows on the ground and intertwines itself in trees.
- The pineapple flower (Eucomis bicolor) blossoms with green flowers that have purple-tinged petals. This summer-blooming flower is from tropical South Africa and looks like a pineapple plant with bracts that sit on top of the ½-inch-long flowers. The pineapple flower is a popular choice to include in a bouquet. It can be grown from a bulb in the fall or from seed in the spring. Plant it in partial to full sun with moderate water, in soil that's rich with humus.
