"Fall With Honor" is the seventh book in E.
E.
Knight's impressive "Vampire Earth" series.
Don't be misled.
This is not your typical vampire novel.
Knight blends elements of military science fiction and horror to create a chilling post-apocalyptic world where aliens with vampire-like traits have taken over the planet.
War is hell! And nobody knows that better than David Valentine.
It's 2075 and he's fighting with the military resistance forces in a post-apocalyptic Earth that has been dominated by the Kurian Order, a race of aliens who feed on the life essence of human beings.
Valentine, with the help of old friend, Sergeant Major Patel, has recruited a company for the specific purpose of joining forces with a guerrilla army to establish a new freehold in the Appalachian Mountains.
It's an area close to the Kurian strongholds and setting up an outpost would be a major victory against the Kurians, but there are traitors everywhere and nothing can prepare him for what awaits.
There's an ambush and Southern Command is forced to retreat.
Can they best the clever Kurians, blood drinking Reapers and gargoyles to fight another day? The plot drags a bit in the beginning as the offensive is planned but the action picks up and leads to a satisfying conclusion.
Knight has created a completely plausible military resistance.
Battle strategy, conflict and injuries are realistic.
He tempers the grim realities of a conquered Earth with a bit of romance for Valentine and some interaction between him and his half Reaper adopted son, named Blake.
The characters are complex, the dialogue realistic and the action convincing.
Vampire Earth is a consistently entertaining read but the compelling adventure provides a more gratifying experience if the series is read in order.
