Add Coby Electronics to the increasing number of consumer electronics companies that have closed shop or are just hanging in there.
However, in the case of Coby Electronics, they have not only shut their doors and sold much of their assets to the Gordon Brothers Group, they have left current Coby customers seeking warranty service (and even getting products sent back from service) out in the cold as the conditions of their shutdown and asset sale does not require Gordon Brothers to provide any recourse for any existing Coby warranty or product service claims.
What is odd, is that the Coby Website is still up, with no indication that something has changed.
My Take: OK, so Gordon Brothers, and what ever remains of Coby, don't have a legal obligation to service customers with existing product warranties and pre-liquidation service issues, but what about stepping up to do the right thing and at least return products currently in service or transfer existing warranty terms to a third party?
Also, what about Coby products that may still be on dealer's shelves - are their warranties valid or not? If Gordon Brothers plans to "infuse capital" and continue the Coby Brand name - good luck, as it may just be permanently tarnished, especially if they hope to get repeat business from existing Coby product owners. If you don't respect past and current customers, how do we know you will respect new ones?
