- 1). Save all of your work and important files to an external storage device. Once the re-imaging was been performed, all of your programs, pictures and music will be erased.
- 2). Restart your machine. Do this by clicking on "Start," "Shutdown" and then "Restart."
- 3). Hit the "F10" key until the "Starting HP Recovery" screen appears. You may have to hit the key a number of times before you can access this page. This will take you to the re-imaging menu, where you can choose which method you would like to use.
- 4). Click "Next" and then "Yes" from the first screen to begin the standard disk re-imaging procedure. This method will only replace the operating system files and is not considered a full re-imaging of your drive because it does not wipe the hard drive completely.
- 5). Select "Advanced," then choose "Destructive Recovery" and then "Yes." This method will perform a complete reformatting of your hard drive and will remove all of your files in the process. A Destructive Recovery is considered to be a full re-imaging of your hard drive since everything is removed in the process.
- 6). Follow the instructions from the next set of screens to complete the re-imaging of your hard drive. When your computer reboots itself, it will begin the Windows re-installation.
