- 1). Compile a list of cruise lines you would be interested in working for. Some of the larger lines are Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, Norwegian, Princess and Royal, and all of these have employment links on their websites.
- 2). Check the company's website for job fair locations. Cruise lines do occasionally recruit through job fairs, and applying in person at a job fair helps your resume stand out by putting a face to the information.
- 3). Determine what type of job(s) you want and/or you will be best qualified for. And if having plenty of time off to explore ports of call is important to you, make sure to look for positions that will give you daytime hours off. For example, casino and gift shops close during most ports of calls for legal reasons so those employees will have time to explore. On the other hand, wait staff and room stewards work schedules that don't permit them as much, if any, time off the ship.
- 4). Freshen up your resume and cover sheet once you determine what position(s) you are interested in. Highlight any skills that you have that will be desirable for the position(s) you are applying for.
- 5). Check that you have a current passport and if you don't, make sure to get one.
- 6). Understand what a cruise ship job will entail before you go to the interview. Shared rooms and long hours of work while at sea are common, so don't waste the interviewer's or your time if these are not things you can deal with.
- 7). Prepare for the interview and be ready to show why you are the best candidate for the job. Make sure you are well groomed and well dressed.
- 8). Follow up your interview with a thank you call, email or card. Sometimes it takes a little time for the application process to go through, so keep checking periodically.
