How to Troubleshoot a Belkin G Wireless Router

    • 1). Remove the Ethernet cable form the WAN port located on the back of the router and plug the cable into the Ethernet port on the computer. This eliminates the router from the equation and plugs the computer directly into the Internet modem. Access the Internet on the computer. If you still cannot connect, the issue is with your Internet Service Provider and not your Belkin router. If the Internet does work, plug the Ethernet cable back into the LAN port on your router. Attempt to connect to the Internet again. If it still does not work, proceed to the next step.

    • 2). Reboot all of the components in your wireless network. Start with turning off the computer. Once the computer is turned off, pull the power cord out of the back of the wireless router. With the router off, pull the power cord out of the back of the Internet modem. Once all components are turned off, turn the Internet modem back on by plugging it in. Allow the modem one minute to boot back up. Plug the Belkin wireless router back in and allow it one minute to fully boot up. Turn on your computer and allow it to establish Internet connection. If an Internet connection is not established within five minutes of booting up, proceed to the next step.

    • 3). Complete a reset of the router with the modem on. To do so, push a pin into the reset hole located in the back of the router. Do not hold the pin into the reset hole. The lights on the router flash once the router resets. This is a soft reset and does not lose any personal router settings. Allow the router one minute to establish connection. Check the Internet on your computer. If it still does not work, proceed to the next step.

    • 4). Complete a master reset on the router by pushing a pin into the reset hole and holding it in for 10 second. This clears out all personal router settings, including security passwords, filtering, bridging and firewalls. Any computer with Wi-Fi capabilities can connect to the router. Allow one minute for the router to fully reboot once the lights flash. Check your Internet connection.

    • 5). Replace your Ethernet cables with new Cat5 Ethernet cables. In rare cases, Ethernet cables can become defective. After replacing your Ethernet cables, reboot your complete network before testing the internet. If you do not have Internet connection after replacing the Ethernet cables, contact Belkin customer service at 800-223-5546 for a router replacement.
