Microsoft Office can incorporate a bunch of Symbols or Special Characters. Here's how to find ones you way not have known about.
Symbols can be thought of as specific to content creation. These are based on font sets, and range from math notation to language alphabets.
Special Characters can be thought of as specific to document creation and range from specialized spacing marks to copyright symbols.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Less than 10 Minutes
Here's How:
- To insert a Symbol, click in the document to indicate where you want it. Then Select Insert - Symbol - More Symbols. You can then change the Font set for even more options. Click Insert to finish.
- To insert a Special Character, click in the document to indicate where you want it. Then Select Insert - Symbol - More Symbols - Special Characters tab. Choose one, then click Insert to finish.
Tips:
- Symbols usually have a character code you can use as a keyboard shortcut, instead of scrolling through all the symbols. This can be helpful for symbols you use a lot. Type the character code then press ALT - X.
You can also place your cursor right after a symbol already in your document then press ALT - X and the character code will be revealed to you. - Some programs in Microsoft Office do not offer as many options for Symbols or Special Characters as Word does. You can always insert these to a Word document, then try copying and pasting to another program.
