What is Atheism? Atheism can be considered as the opposite of theism.
"Theism" means believing in a deity or group of deities, therefore "atheism" is the lack of belief in the existence of gods or deities.
Atheism is not a religion, but an absence of belief that any gods or other supernatural beings exist.
"There is no evidence to support the theory that there is a god, so until such evidence is presented, I maintain no belief in such a god and live under the assumption that he is not there.
" You might be an atheist if...
Do you believe in Allah, Osiris, Jupiter, Odin, Vishnu, or Zeus? Do you believe in the teachings found in the Koran or the Bhagavad Gita? Do you recognize Abraham as a Patriarch like the Jewish faith does? If you said NO to just even one of the above, then you are an atheist.
You are being hypocritical if you are doubtful and cynical of the holy scriptures, miracles, holy men and prophets of all religions but your own.
When it comes to other gods and other religions, you become an atheist, so why should your own god be so special? You prove it, not me.
How many times have I heard this foolish argument that an atheist MUST prove that there is no god.
I have heard this from friends, too.
I would ask them,"Can you prove to me that there is indeed a God?".
and they would reply, "Well, can YOU prove that there isn't?" Listen up.
THE BURDEN OF PROOF IS ALWAYS ON THE THEIST.
Atheists don't have to prove anything to you.
Why? Because we are not the one asserting that something or someone exists.
You are.
If I accuse you of rape, then it is up to me to prove that you, indeed, committed the crime of rape.
You do not have to prove that you did not commit rape.
Therefore, the burden of proof is on the accuser.
Or in this case, the believer.
You are saying that there is a god.
I am saying that there is not.
You show me that I am wrong.
Exceptional claims require exceptional evidence.
The world is natural.
What makes a crocodile stay as a crocodile, and not suddenly turn into a chihuahua? What makes the trees stay rooted to the ground, and not fly and float into the skies? This is not the will of a supernatural being, but just the facts that a crocodile is not a chihuahua, and that gravity keeps things from floating above the ground.
The universe operates according to causal principles, without the need for any supernatural power to keep things from getting chaotic.
Moral men do not need religion.
Religion may offer moral guidance, but they are not the source of moral principles.
Even before religion, human beings have discovered that following certain rules of conduct makes their lives pleasurable, progressive, and peaceful.
Our morality as human beings starts from our own humanity; from our own human nature, and not from divine guidance.
If a person chooses to live his life as a righteous and honest individual, it is much better that he chose to do so for the rewards of being morally upright, and not because of the fear of eternal punishment.
Atheists know that there is no other life aside from the one we have right now here on earth, and therefore, we try to live life to the fullest.
