- 1). Decide upon the type of church robe that is required. Ask the pastor, priest or other church leader to provide this information. In the case that he can't provide this information, read the church bylaws and search for this information.
- 2). Order an appropriate pattern after the rules that dictate the basic design have been determined. Order different patterns for children than for adults because children's bodies aren't just smaller, they have different proportions than adults. Order the fabric, embroidery thread and other materials that will be necessary to construct the robes.
- 3). Lay the fabric out on a flat surface. Set the pattern on top of the fabric. Use straight pins to attach the pattern to the fabric. Cut out the fabric for the robe out. Follow the pattern instructions precisely to achieve correct size.
- 4). Use straight pins to connect the parts of the robe that have been cut out from the pattern. Attach the panels that will make up the long portion of the robe together first. Turn the completed long portion of the robe inside out. Use pins to attach the upper portion of the sleeves onto the armholes in the long portion of the robe, with the wrong side of the sleeves facing out.
- 5). Trim the length of the sleeves and the bottom of the robe to the correct length. Sew the garment together along each of the seams. Sew the hems of the sleeves and the bottom of the robe together last. Sew the stole, burse, chasuble and maniple to the robe if they are part of the selected pattern.
- 6). Sew embroidered elements onto the church robe.
