How to Replace a Window Lift Motor on a GM

    • 1). Remove the two screws in the armrest using the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the cover concealing the inside attachment point for the side-view mirror. Remove the screw from the cover in front of the inside door handle if present, and remove any screws located on the sides of the door panel.

    • 2). GMs use trim fasteners--pieces of plastic shaped like a bolt, with serrations where the threads would be. To remove these, simply slide the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door and pry them out of their respective recess.

    • 3). Disconnect all electrical connectors from the door panel. Disconnect the electrical connector from the window motor. Remove the three bolts holding the window motor to the regulator.

    • 4). Install the new window motor by pushing it into the regulator and rocking it slightly to engage the gears. Install the three bolts and tighten. Connect the electrical connector. Replace all remaining parts in reverse order of removal.
