How to Disassemble a GE Dryer

    • 1). Unplug your GE dryer from the wall socket. Remove the panel covering the power cable connection. Unscrew the power cable from the dryer and set it aside. If possible, move the dryer to an area where you have access to all sides of it.

    • 2). Open the dryer door and remove the retaining screws located at the top of the front panel. Lift the top up and off of the dryer.

    • 3). Remove the screws holding the front panel in place. The screws are located along the inside frame of the dryer. Once the screws are removed, remove the front panel. Due to the door switch wires, the front panel should be slid to the side, rather than pulled straight forward. Older-style GE dryers should be moved to the right side, while newer styles should be moved to the left.

    • 4). Locate and remove the two screws about 6 inches from the floor on both sides of the dryer. Removing these allows the dryer frame to flex a bit, giving you enough clearance to pull the drum out of the frame.

    • 5). Disconnect the belt from the pulleys inside the dryer and slide the drum out toward you. Newer styles allow you to just slide the drum out. If you have an older style dryer, first remove the small access panel on the back of the dryer, revealing the clips holding the drum in place. Remove the clips and slide the drum out.

    • 6). Remove all of the screws along the sides of the rear panel and pull the rear panel of off the dryer frame. This leaves you with complete access to all areas of your GE dryer for troubleshooting and repair.
