- Most office cabinets are either of the lateral or vertical type and are designed to last for several years. They are available in a variety of materials including wood, plastic, metal and composite.
- Office cabinets should never be placed in high-traffic areas. Tripping hazards and head injuries are commonplace when located in hallways, break rooms or crowded work areas.
- Heavy loads should never be placed in the top drawers or on top of the cabinets. Placing lighter materials in the top drawers and heavier materials in the bottom will minimize the chances of the cabinets tipping over when the top drawers are opened.
- Leaving drawers open increases the risk of the cabinet tipping and personal injury from tripping over the drawers.
- When opening bottom drawers, it is always best to bend the knees rather than bending at the waist. Also, the drawers have several pinch points that can cause serious hand injury.
