- 1). Bring Feng Shui elements into your living room in creative ways. For the Earth element, living plants make an excellent choice. They provide healthy energy and ground your whole living space. With Fire, set up some red or orange candles, but keep them away from the fireplace as that would be too much heated force, leading to intense emotions and possibly arguments. For the element of metal, add touches of white, silver, yellow or gold or perhaps put up some pictures framed in those colors.
The last two elements are water and wood. Small indoor fountains are a lovely touch that also provide soothing sounds. If you can find one with a bamboo plant, then you cover both water and wood in one decorative piece. Of course, any of your wooden furniture works too. - 2). Create open spaces. Move furniture into your living room that has curved edges and take out any clutter. Feng Shui ascribes to the idea that clutter and harsh edges disrupt Chi. The path from your front door to a chair should always be clear for guests. Also, try to arrange your furniture in such a way that it does not block natural light from windows.
- 3). Select a few decorations that have meaning. Keep it to a minimum. You can always have seasonal arrays, but too much decoration equals busyness and tension. Look for living room decorations that reflect the ideas of peace, harmony, and relaxation.
- 4). Keep your efforts carefully balanced among the elements of earth, wood, fire, water, and metal. For example, place metal and earth touches near each other. These two work cooperatively. Also place water near fire, so that one doesn't overwhelm the other. Wood integrates well with everything except fire. It provides motivation and inspiration.
